Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) in the United Arab Emirates Saqr Ghobash has detailed how the UAE wants to enhance bilateral relations with Eswatini.

According to the Speaker of the FNC, he and Senate President Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various vital sectors.

The two officials are reported to have discussed the common vision that looks forward to prospects which will serve the interests of the two friendly countries and the people therein.

It was further suggested that bilateral cooperation should be enhanced with effective communication and coordination on a variety of topics of common interest.

Ghobash, in a UAE media report, said the discussion between the two officials emphasised the importance of the exchange of visits and experiences, and improving coordination and consultations between the two Parliaments, especially on Parliamentary participation, which will strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

He further shared how the Senate President invited him to attend the consultative meeting of the Association of Senates, Shoora, and Equivalent Councils in Africa and Arab World (ASSECAA) which will
take place on the African continent around May.

The definite location of the meeting will be at a venue yet to be announced. The FNC Speaker expressed pride in being invited to attend the ASSECAA meeting, stressing the importance of the role of Parliaments in strengthening cooperation between the Arab and African countries in all fields. This will improve coordination and consultation in all that protects the common interests and aspirations of Arab and African countries and plays the role of a bridge for communication between the two sides.

Furthermore, Saqr Ghobash is said to have extended an official invitation to Dlamini to visit the UAE. It is worth noting that the Association of Senates, Shura Councils, and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA) aims to support bilateral Parliamentary relations and strengthen cooperation between peoples in various fields.

The ASSECAA also promotes meetings and dialogues between Senates, Shura Councils, and similar institutions to achieve joint effective work, coordinate cooperation, exchange experiences and intensify their efforts in regional and international conferences and organisations.

His Majesty King Mswati III has previously highlighted the keenness of the country to strengthen its strategic ties with the UAE and create opportunities for economic cooperation, as well as enhancing the cooperation between the two countries.

His Majesty shared that the country aims to attract Emirati investments, noting that Eswatini is a key market for Emirati companies wishing to enter African markets.

The King also pointed out that the Kingdom was keen to strengthen its trade and economic relations with the UAE, notably in manufacturing and other strategic areas, highlighting that Eswatini’s participation in
Expo 2020 Dubai was a key opportunity to promote the country and the investment opportunities it offers.
