Swallows President, Bishop Bheki Lukhele flies out of ‘Birds’ nest

By Lwazi Dlamini

It’s an end of an era! Mbabane Swallows President Bheki Lukhele has quit the club due to what he has described as “personal reasons”.

Lukhele was unveiled as Swallows’s President on August 22, 2019, taking over from Princess Lungile, the wife of the late Chairman, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze, who had taken over in January 2018 after the sudden demise of her husband.

In a letter, which Eswatini Daily News has in its possession, dated May 9 2023, addressed to the club’s Elders Council and Patron, Princess Lungile, Lukhele said he was terminating the agreement he had with the club and resigning as President.

“The resignation is for personal reasons and will take effect at the end of the 2022/2023 football season. I trust that in the meantime, you will have time to look for and appoint a new President to run the team. I have directed the Governor Mr Sebenele Nhlengethwa and the present Management Committee, to prepare the team’s property and documents for a proper handover to yourselves.”

Lukhele then thanked the Elders, for allowing him to be part of the club and wish it well for the future. Swallows Board of Governor, Sebenele Nhlengetfwa confirmed the latest developments and said the club will release a statement early in the week.
