It seems emaSwati are aligning with the elections slogan ‘ngete ngasala nasakha live letfu’ as they continue to register to vote in impressive numbers.
Over 100 000 emaSwati have so far registered to vote in the general elections, 10 days after registration opened. This is according to information provided by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) on their Twitter page. The commission stated that by 12.06 pm on May 19, 100 018 people had registered to vote.
The majority of registered voters are women who are standing at 51 131, while 48 889 males have registered. Voter registration is an important stage of the electoral process where eligible voters are identified and compiled in a voter’s list.

The EBC said emaSwati hit the 100 000 mark of registered voters and evidence for more registrants responding to the call is witnessed nationwide. The EBC said the determination is humbling as well as challenging to the next crop of politicians to be effective and responsive to the developmental needs of the nation.
Voter registration began on May 10 and will last until June 14. The inspection of the Voters Roll will be between June 22 and July 12, 2023Â Nomination of candidates will take place over two days on July 22 and 23 followed by Primary Elections on August 26 and the Secondary Elections will be on September 29, 2023.
