Toddler, Gogo die in drowning incidents

THIS past weekend saw the death of two people in separate drowning incidents in the country.
According to police reports, on September 10, an 18-month-old toddler drowned in a pond at Mhlaleni, in the Manzini region.

According to sources, the toddler and his mother had just gotten out of church when she asked others to briefly look after him as she needed to tend to something. It was then that the child disappeared and when she returned and asked of his whereabouts, he was nowhere to be found causing panic.

Those nearby searched everywhere closer to the place where the infant disappeared, moved from house to house calling out his name and there was no response. It wasn’t until later that someone spotted the toddler’s lifeless body inside the pond, a heart-wrenching scene for his mother and those present.

“It was a sad sight and currently his mother is not in any state to talk about it. She is shattered by the loss,†said the source. In a separate incident that shook another community, a 70-year-old woman reportedly drowned in the Great Usuthu River.

The incident took place on September 10 in the Lunkuntu area, and the 70-year-old woman drowned while fishing using a net at the river.
