Two men apprehended for stealing liquor worth over E56 000

By Siphesihle Dlamini

1 Timothy 5:23: “Drink no longer water but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.”

On that note, two men thought that had their upcoming Easter holidays sorted, as far as liquor was concerned.

Well, that was not the case as they were arrested and appeared before Mbabane Magistrate’s Court for a charge of theft.

Linda Mndzebele (30) of Mvutjini and Thubelihle Ngwenya (28) of Ngculwini were apprehended for stealing liquor worth over E56,000 and causing additional damage during their escapade.

The incident, which took place on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, at the Chairman’s Lounge, saw the duo facing charges of theft and property damage.

It is alleged that Mndzebele and Ngwenya unlawfully made off with liquor valued at E56 655, belonging to Calvin Mabena.

In a reckless act, they also smashed a Skyworth 75-inch television, valued at E20 179 with a beer bottle, further complicating their legal troubles.

During their court appearance at the Mbabane Magistrate’s Court, Mndzebele admitted guilt, while Ngwenya maintained his innocence.

The case is scheduled for trial on May 17, 2024, as the accused await their fate. In a bid for freedom, both men applied for bail, citing personal responsibilities and a commitment to face the trial proceedings.

Mndzebele said that he needed to take care of his children, while Ngwenya applied and assured the court that he wouldn’t flee trial. Magistrate Innocent Motsa granted each accused person bail in the amount of E5 000, allowing them temporary freedom pending the trial.
