After community support and government intervention, significant progress has been made in the construction of a new home for 80-year-old Norah Malaza in Mayiwane.
The project is spearheaded by Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Thulisile Dladla who promised Malaza a new house after being found living in a depilated one-room house. DPM toured the house and applauded the progress as it nears completion.
Malaza, overwhelmed with gratitude, expressed disbelief at the prospect of owning a beautiful new home. “I still don’t believe that this beautiful house is mine,” she remarked.
“Even when my days come to an end, I will have a proper send-off.” The prospect of residing in a comfortable and safe environment brings renewed hope to Malaza, who had resigned herself to the inevitability of her old house collapsing.
The project gained momentum after Mayiwane Member of Parliament, Sicelo Dlamini, identified Malaza as a deserving beneficiary and promptly alerted Deputy Prime Minister Dladla. Acting swiftly on the recommendation, Dladla ensured that construction commenced without delay.

During the tour, Deputy Prime Minister Dladla witnessed the remarkable progress firsthand, as Malaza proudly showcased her nearly completed two-roomed house.
Malaza expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received. “After living in my old house for so long, I had accepted that one day it will collapse on me,” she shared.
“But now, I still don’t believe that very soon I will be sleeping in a decent house, have a new toilet, and own a water tank.”
