REPS has commited to end crime in Eswatini and called on the public for collaboration in the pursuit.

The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has once again shared its dedication to quelling the rampant crime wave that has gripped the nation.

Acting National Commissioner of Police, Lydia Dlamini, delivered a stern message during a recent crime prevention campaign held at kuMethula Inkhundla, shedding light on the relentless efforts of REPS to track down perpetrators and restore peace to the communities.

Addressing the alarming statistics indicating an upward trend in crime, Dlamini emphasized the unwavering commitment of REPS to combatting criminal elements.

Despite the daunting challenges posed by escalating crime rates, she reassured the populace that REPS remains steadfast in its mission to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

The Police force shared that the campaign, aligned with REPS’ annual operational theme of “Combating Crime and Road Traffic Accidents through Robust Police Action in Partnership with The Public,” which expresses the crucial role of community engagement in the fight against crime.

Dlamini stressed the significance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public. She emphasized the pivotal role of community members as key stakeholders in crime prevention efforts.

Dlamini recognized the grave impact of crime on societal well-being and called for unified support and cooperation from the nation at large.

She highlighted the urgent need to address serious crimes such as murder, gender-based violence (GBV), armed robberies, and drug-related offences, emphasizing that a safe and secure environment is indispensable for national development and investment.

Moreover, Dlamini highlighted the imperative of prioritizing youth involvement in crime prevention initiatives, she recognized their vulnerability to criminal influence and the pivotal role they play in shaping the future of the country.

The Acting NatCom further stated the relationship between law enforcement and communities, and she acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the public in the fight against crime.

In light of escalating crime rates, Dlamini cautioned against vigilantism, urging emaSwati to uphold the rule of law and refrain from taking matters into their own hands.

She highlighted the importance of due process and emphasized the need for restraint and adherence to legal frameworks in addressing criminal activities.

Furthermore, Dlamini addressed the pressing issue of road safety, expressing concern over the high incidence of road accidents, particularly fatalities involving pedestrians.



Stressing the importance of mutual respect among road users, she called for concerted efforts to mitigate road-related fatalities and uphold traffic regulations.
