“Assault was merely revenge to my ex-girlfriend”
This is what a 24 year-old man told the Manzini Magistrate Court on Friday.

The man had been arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend after he found her seated with her new boyfriend.

He stunned the court when he alleged that the reason why he assaulted his ex-girlfriend was because he was paying revenge, since her former girlfriend also assaulted him when she found him cheating on her with another woman whilst they were still dating.

Mlandvo Mndvoti (24) alleged before Principal Magistrate Florence Msibi that the reason why he assaulted his ex-girlfriend was because he found her seated with another man.

He claimed that he was propelled by the situation to assault his ex-girlfriend because she once also assaulted him after she found him cheating with another woman while they were still dating.

Mndvoti mentioned that it transpired some time back and the reason why he was bringing it to the attention of the court in relation to the matter at hand was because he found his ex-girlfriend seated with another man and then resolved to assault her,

since she also assaulted him when she found him cheating on her with another woman whilst they were still dating.

“I found her with another man and then I pushed her and beat her. She started it, I was only retaliating,” he said.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and was found guilty as per his own plea.

Mvoti mitigated for a lenient sentence on the basis that he was unemployed and yet he had two young children that were depended on him.
