MTN Bushfire Festival event organisers made a good call collaborating with the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) when it came to managing traffic to and from the event.
The 17th Edition of the Bushfire Festival saw revellers travelling smoothly upon arrival and when leaving the festival which also had ample parking space for campers and daily travellers.

To prevent traffic congestion, REPS officers redirected vehicles driving to the event to travel via the Sundowners route as the ‘entrance’ and Mahlanya was used as the ‘exit’ allowing smooth sailing of vehicles.
This was appreciated by motorists who said the collaboration was well coordinated and safe for motorists.
“Instead of dealing with one long queue on one lane, we have found ourselves using the road to Mahlanya, both lanes as an exit which allowed free movement.
The route via Sundowners was a smart move that also created order, big ups to them for that,” said one motorist.
Other motorists have seen this as an opportunity for Bushfire event organisers to partner with the Malkerns Town Board and find ways to expand the road and add lanes for an even more smother flow of traffic.
They said that even though the Sundowners route was appreciated in terms of traffic control, it was long and tedious.
“So maybe, because this is a yearly thing now which continues to grow, they can find ways to make the journey shorter, for some of us travelling from Mbabane, once at Mahlanya the mind says I have arrived, only to be redirected to Sundowners and drive some more,” said another motorist.
Over-all and above, motorists felt that the traffic control measure was well thought and implemented.
