It was a heartfelt farewell event for Central Bank of Eswatini’s veteran, Mandla Dlamini which was held at the Bank’s headquarters.

The longest serving Deputy Director of Payments System, was honored for his extraordinary 37-year tenure at the Bank.

Dlamini’s career began in 1987 when he joined the Bank as a Clerical Officer in the Internal Audit Department.

Over the years, his continued dedication and exceptional leadership saw him rise through the ranks to a managerial position.

His tenure was marked by numerous achievements, particularly in advancing the payments systems landscape in Eswatini.

The Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) asserted that one of his notable contributions was the development of a robust payments’ regulatory framework and the ongoing implementation of the national payments switch project.

This initiative is designed enhance the efficiency and security of financial transactions in Eswatini, a feat that was instrumental in modernizing the nation’s financial infrastructure.

The Bank continued to monitor payment operations in the Eswatini ecosystem and conducted inspections on designated payment systems and mobile money transfer services to ensure that payment systems continue to make financial transactions efficient, secure, and reliable.”

Dlamini’s colleagues and friends at the Bank expressed their admiration for his dedication and exceptional work ethic.

Zithulele Gina, Director of Human Capital, praised Dlamini for his willingness to share his extensive knowledge on complex banking procedures, emphasizing the lasting impact of his mentorship.

“We often had rich conversations. You have ensured that the gap you are leaving behind will not be felt much because you groomed your staff well.

If only you would stay around for another 10 years to mentor the new people who will join the Bank. You were a good and faithful servant of the Bank,” Gina remarked.

In his brief remarks, Mandla Dlamini expressed his deep appreciation for the time he spent at the Bank, acknowledging the supportive and caring environment propelled by the institution.

“CBE is the most caring financial institution I have seen in the financial sector. The day has arrived,” he said.
The farewell event was attended by Dlamini’s family, friends, and colleagues, who gathered to celebrate his legacy.

Departure a bittersweet occasion – Governor Dr. Phil Mnisi

Mandla Dlamini has been with CBE for 37 years.

Governor Dr. Phil Mnisi also shared his thoughts on Dlamini’s departure, calling it a bittersweet occasion.

He praised Dlamini for his leadership qualities, natural ability to connect with people, and his remarkable sense of humor and sociability.

Mnisi recalled how Dlamini changed the profile and impact of the CBE Sports Club and chaired the CBE Retirement Fund Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2023.

He also noted Dlamini’s role on the Board of Directors at Greystone Partners Limited, where he served from 2011 to December 2023.

Mnisi emphasized the importance of creating a positive and welcoming work environment, a quality Dlamini instinctively understood.

He noted that Dlamini’s dedication extended beyond the Bank, describing him as a remarkable family man, farmer, loyal friend, and thoughtful person who embodied the “work hard, play hard” philosophy.

“It is important to celebrate his life’s achievements, big and small,” Mnisi stated, where he highlighted Dlamini’s role in advancing Eswatini’s payments systems landscape.

His efforts included the development of a strong regulatory framework and the implementation of the National Payments System Bill 2022 into law.

Dlamini’s work in the SADC Payments System Subcommittee and his contributions to continental financial market infrastructures under the Association of African Central Banks Governors were also praised.

Mnisi said Dlamini’s impact went beyond technical prowess. He said that he was a true mentor, always willing to share his knowledge and guide others.

“His insightful perspective and collaborative spirit fostered a supportive environment where everyone could learn and grow” the Governor stated.

Mnisi concluded by expressing the Bank’s sincere gratitude for Dlamini’s leadership, dedication, and friendship, wishing him the best in his well-deserved retirement.
