It’s great news for Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society as two of its youth volunteers, Nomvula Tsela and Sihle Gamedze, have been awarded support worth E10,000 (500 Swiss francs) from Solferino Academy in Italy.

This support comes as part of an initiative aimed at addressing climate and environmental challenges in Eswatini.

According to the Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society’s Public Relations Officer Nontobeko Mbuyane, this opportunity was shared with Red Cross volunteers globally.

Nomvula Tsela and Sihle Gamedze seized this chance, applied, and emerged victorious, making them two of the 1000 participants selected for their innovative approach to tackling local environmental issues.

The selected project focuses on climate and environmental challenges specific to Eswatini and outlines how the Red Cross can provide support to address these issues.

Tsela and Gamedze expressed their excitement about the initiative, hopeful that their project will contribute significantly to mitigating the drought situation in the country.

In a video submission that secured their selection, the two young volunteers detailed their project’s vision and its potential impact on Eswatini communities.

The video showcased their dedication and innovative thinking, highlighting how their project aligns with the broader goals of the Red Cross in supporting vulnerable populations.

The young volunteers have called for assistance and support from the leaders of the Eswatini Red Cross offices to help them create and develop a prototype for testing in local communities.
