Welfare Officer Welile Simelane has invited the Elderly to attend their special event which will be held at Millennium Park on July 18

In a bid to address a pressing issue within the community, the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office’s Social Welfare Officer, Welile Simelane, has emphasized the importance of legal documentation for fostering a child.

Simelane underscored the gravity of the matter, stating that it is a criminal offence to foster a child without proper legal documents in place.

As part of efforts to assist and support the elderly community, Simelane has invited elderly individuals to an upcoming event at Millennium Park, organized by the Philani Maswati Charity Organisation.

It should be noted that the event serves as a precursor to the much-anticipated Embiveni Biggest Braai event, scheduled to take place at the Mavuso Trade Centre on July 20.

“On this day, the DPMO will provide assistance to the elderly in obtaining essential documents such as birth certificates, as well as legal documentation to formalize their role as foster parents,” Simelane stated.

The initiative aims to address gaps in legal compliance and ensure that elderly individuals fostering children are operating within the bounds of the law.

The event at Millennium Park will offer a support system for the elderly, facilitating access to vital documentation that is necessary for legal and legitimate fostering arrangements.

“By providing assistance and guidance, the DPMO seeks to empower elderly individuals with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of fostering and caregiving,” Simelane pointed out.

The Social Welfare Officer further emphasized legal documentation and stated that it not only safeguards the rights and well-being of children in foster care but also protects elderly caregivers from potential legal ramifications.

She said that it serves as a crucial step towards ensuring that fostering arrangements are conducted ethically, responsibly, and in accordance with established legal protocols.

It is worth mentioning that as preparations for the Embiveni Biggest Braai event continue, the focus on legal compliance and support for the elderly highlights the commitment of the DPMO and partner organizations to promote the welfare and protection of vulnerable individuals within the community.

The event at Millennium Park promises to provide valuable assistance and guidance to elderly caregivers, strengthening the foundation for safe and secure fostering practices.
