A man has admitted to stabbing and pouring hot water at another in his girlfriend’s house after an ‘invasion’ prompting him to defend himself in the process.
The accused person, Sifiso Mazibuko (37) of Holneck told the court on July 6, 2024, he went to visit his girlfriend Khangezile Mamba at Phola. At around 11 p.m, whilst preparing to take a bath, he heard a loud knock at the door.
“I enquired from my girlfriend whether she was expecting anyone, and she responded to the negative,” he said.

Mazibuko stated that the person at the door was hauling insults demanding the door be opened. In the process, he learnt that the individual’s name was Ncobani Nkosikhona Sibandze who is an ex-boyfriend to Mamba.
Upon peeping through the window, Mazibuko noted that Sibandze was in the company of other people who were unknown to him.
The burglar door was unlocked which Sibandze reportedly opened and forced his way into the house.
“Upon entering the house and in fear for my life, I grabbed the bucket with the water I was preparing to bathe with and poured it towards the door. He charged towards me, and a scuffle ensued.
To protect myself against him, I grabbed the kitchen knife, which was within reach, and amid the commotion he was unfortunately stabbed,” Mazibuko told the court.
He stated that he then made his way towards the exit and successfully escaped and ran for his dear life.
Subsequently, he was arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
He made his first court appearance at the Nhlangano Magistrates Court where he was remanded into custody until August 8, 2024, hence the urgent bail application.
He told the court that on the day in question, he was acting in self-defense because Sibandze had made it clear whilst hurling insults that he was out to harm him.

“I am employed as a driver therefore, my continued incarceration is likely to cost me my job due to absenteeism to my prejudice,” he submitted.
He further submitted that he has five minor children from different women who are dependent on him as their mothers are unemployed.
Mazibuko also brought it to the court’s attention that he has no previous criminal record and further undertook not to abscond trial as he will continue to reside within Eswatini and will submit his residential area to the investigating officer.
Judge Titus Mlangeni questioned why an assault for GBH matter was before the High Court and ordered that it be dealt with at the Magistrates Court.
