The first incident occurred on the MR1 public road in Rocklands, where a Toyota sedan driven by a 29-year-old man lost control, veered off the road, and collided with a donga.

A 23-year-old woman from Glen, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries.

ragically, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital.

The driver and two other passengers, a 28-year-old man, and a 33-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged.

Senior Superintendent Phindile Khumalo, the Police Information and Communication Officer, confirmed the details of the accident, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

The loss of a young life is always a devastating blow to any community, and the repercussions of this incident will undoubtedly be felt by many.

In a separate but equally tragic incident later that same day, an Isuzu SUV driven by a 45-year-old man from Sithobelweni struck a 63-year-old pedestrian near Chinese Mission along the MR1 public road.

The elderly man, identified as a resident of Ntontozi, sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to RFM Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

These accidents serve as stark reminders of the importance of road safety and responsible driving.

Lives have been irrevocably changed, families left shattered, and communities left mourning because of these tragic events.

PICO, in response to these tragedies, urged all road users to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and always prioritize safety.

“Proper maintenance of vehicles, adherence to speed limits, and avoidance of distractions while driving are key factors in preventing such devastating accidents,” PICO said.
