Amidst Manzini Wanderers’ marathon relegation battle, an elite team proposed no relegation for the country’s ‘Big 3’.
The proposal was subject to discussion in the Premier League of Eswatini’s (PLE) Electoral Assembly at Sigwaca House Conference Hall on Saturday.
However, the team that forwarded the proposal can not be named for now. At the time of going to press, the assembly was still ongoing, with the media only covering the elections.

It had not been established what the teams agreed on over this proposal. Among a handful of reasons given for the proposal, the ‘Big 3’, being Wanderers, Highlanders and Swallows, is that these are the teams that generate revenue for the rest of the teams when they are hosted.
Also, ‘the league bargains with these teams’ when negotiating for sponsorship, among other things. They must further not take part in play-offs should they be placed in the relegation zone. Instead, other smaller teams above them must be compromised for the playoffs.

“It’s true that this was among the proposals in the big meeting but call the PLE for the right comment,” said an impeccable source.
There was no immediate response from the PLE. Meanwhile, the assembly was interdicted from confirming relegation and promotion by the High Court after Wanderers filed an urgent application.Â
The PLE is yet to file its responding papers in the matter scheduled for August 22.
