Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has joined world leaders at the official opening of the 79th UN Summit of the Future in New York, United States of America (USA).
The Premier, who is representing His Majesty King Mswati III, is expected to deliver the country’s statement today at the two-day summit. Held under the theme:
“Multilateral solutions for a better tomorrow”, the Summit of the Future focuses on multi-stakeholder partnerships and actions that pave the way for a more inclusive and networked future post-2030.
World leaders have adopted a Pact for the Future that covers a broad range of themes including peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, gender, youth and future generations and the transformation of global governance.
According to the United Nations website, the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly marks a crucial milestone in the global effort to accelerate progress towards the 17 sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The highly anticipated Summit of the Future, held during UNGA, underscores the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation to address pressing challenges such as climate change,
poverty and inequality, while also tackling the impacts of ongoing conflicts and global health crises,” reads part of the message on the UN website.

It further states that the UN Department of Global Communications will hold its flagship SDG Media Zone during the high-level week of 23-27 September and dialogues on global issues that matter to people everywhere.
“This Summit aims to reaffirm commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Charter while enhancing cooperation and laying the foundations for a reinvigorated multilateral system.
The Summit will result in a negotiated Pact for the Future, an action-oriented document aimed to bolster global cooperation and adapt to current challenges effectively for the benefit of all and for the future generations,” part of the messages reads.
During the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the leaders will address a deeply divided world facing complex crises and conflicts.
The assembly, described as the only global forum where all countries—big or small—have an equal voice, will shape the solutions that could redefine the future.
The statement emphasized the importance of accountability among leaders and the involvement of people, particularly the youth, in shaping decisions that will impact generations to come.

“The future depends on everyone’s participation, decision-makers and everyday citizens alike. It’s up to all of us to act now for people, for the planet, and for our common future,” read the statement.
Recently, the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres briefed the media ahead of the opening of the 79th high-level session of the UN General Assembly and the Summit of the Future.
“I have one overriding message today: an appeal to Member States for a spirit of compromise. Show the world what we can do when we work together,” said the Secretary-General.
