Obakeng Kekana, professionally known as DJ Obza, hails from Hammanskraal, Pretoria, and is recognized as a versatile DJ and music producer signed under Open-Mic Productions.

His journey into the world of music began in 2014, inspired by the talent of Thabang Mathebula, known professionally as DJ Thankzin.

The emotional depth and storytelling ability in DJ Thankzin’s music profoundly influenced Obza, igniting his passion for creating music that resonates deeply with listeners.

DJ Obza recalls the moment he decided to pursue music professionally, saying, “DJ Thankzin could convey emotions through music that inspired me to follow in his footsteps.

I wanted to create tracks that would touch people’s spirits, even if they couldn’t see the story with their eyes.” Despite facing challenges, including a lack of access to high-end equipment, Obza’s determination to succeed never wavered.

He taught himself to use what he had at his disposal, harnessing the power of his laptop to create his very first song.

His debut album, “Masego,” named after his son, embodies the essence of his journey. The title translates to ‘Blessings,’ a fitting tribute to the inspiration he draws from his family and the talent bestowed upon him.

“Realizing how much the Almighty has blessed me with talent, a loving family, and my son, I chose to name my first album after what keeps me motivated during tough times,” Obza shared.
