Late cyclist Dr. Malvern Masango honoured in emotional memorial service

Family, friends, colleagues, and fellow cyclists gathered at Potter’s Wheel Church to pay their respects to the late cyclist Dr. Malvern Masango in a heart-wrenching memorial service.

Masango, remembered as a kind and humble soul, tragically lost his life after being struck by a car while cycling with others in Mfabantfu.

The memorial service was a solemn occasion filled with tributes and memories of the man who had touched many lives, both as a cyclist and a medical professional.

Masango’s friends and colleagues shared touching stories about his dedication to his profession, his passion for cycling, and his amazing humility.

His death was said to have left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew him.

Masango’s body will be laid to rest in his hometown of Gutu, Zimbabwe, where his family will hold his funeral.

The accident that claimed Masango’s life occurred recently in Mfabantfu, where he was cycling with fellow riders. Another cyclist involved in the tragic incident remains in hospital, recovering from serious injuries.

The driver responsible for the fatal accident, Dumisani Mfanawendlela Magagula, a Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs employee, has been charged with culpable homicide and multiple traffic offences.

Magagula appeared in court before Principal Magistrate Florence Msibi at the Manzini Magistrates Court, where he was granted, bail set at E5,000.

He is expected to return to court on October 15, 2024, should he meet the bail conditions.

Magagula allegedly knocked down Dr. Masango and his fellow cyclist on a Saturday morning while driving through the Mfabantfu area.
