The Royal Eswatini Police Service, led by National Commissioner of Police Vusie Manoma Masango, has initiated an operation named “Operation Sikhona,” resulting in the destruction of dagga (cannabis) valued at approximately E2 million.

The operation, which kicked off in one of the jurisdictions within the Hhohho Region, aims to address the growing concerns surrounding drug-related crimes and the impact of illegal substances on the community.

During a press briefing, Commissioner Masango emphasized the commitment of the police force to conduct thorough sweeps across all regions in Eswatini to eliminate the scourge of illegal drugs.

The initiative follows a recent alarming incident involving a high-speed pursuit of alleged dagga robbers in Mananga that tragically ended with one death.

This incident highlighted the urgent need for heightened police action against drug trafficking and related criminal activities.

In the productive operation thus far, officers have successfully destroyed sizeable quantities of dagga, contributing to the ongoing fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the kingdom.

The police have vowed to intensify their efforts, ensuring that communities can feel safe from the threats posed by illegal narcotics.

“The health and safety of our communities are paramount,” stated Commissioner Masango. “Operation Sikhona is just the beginning of our commitment to ridding Eswatini of illicit drugs, and we will not rest until we have made our regions safer for all citizens.”

The operation has garnered support from various community leaders, who underscore the importance of police efforts in addressing the drug problem.

Residents have expressed relief at the police’s proactive stance and hope for continued vigilance in maintaining the peace.

It should be noted that as the Royal Eswatini Police Service prepares to expand Operation Sikhona throughout the nation, they encourage community members to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to assist in these critical efforts.

Residents are reminded that strong community-police partnerships are essential in fighting crime, and everyone is urged to work together towards a drug-free Eswatini.
