Just days earlier, the REPS reported that on October 20, 2024, a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident near Highlands Inn along the MR1 public road.

The 36-year-old man from Ndlembeni suffered a fractured thigh and severe head injuries when an unidentified vehicle collided with him at approximately 3:15 am.

Eyewitnesses report that the driver did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.

Emergency services rushed the victim to Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital; however, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Police are actively searching for the driver of the vehicle and urging anyone with information to come forward.

The local community is demanding justice for the victims and increased measures to ensure pedestrian safety, particularly in notoriously dangerous areas.
