Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla brought joy and hope to Gogo Sibongile Vilakati, 68, and over 90 other vulnerable beneficiaries in the Lubombo Region, with the official handover of a brand-new three-room house.
The gesture has been hailed as “an answered prayer” for many who have suffered from homelessness and dire living conditions.
Gogo Vilakati, who previously found herself and her nine children and grandchildren living in a dilapidated structure, expressed her deep gratitude and overwhelming joy upon entering her new home in Mafucula.
“I felt too ashamed before. Hearing about the DPM handing over houses to others, I wondered if my turn would ever come.

Today, I am filled with pride for my new home, and my children now have a place to call their own,” Gogo Sibongile stated, her eyes glistening with tears of happiness.
This significant transformation in Gogo Vilakati’s life was made possible after her situation was brought to the attention of the Deputy Prime Minister.
Following assessments conducted in February of this year, the Eswatini Government, through the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), funded the construction of her new house.
During the ceremony, DPM Dladla expressed heartfelt appreciation for the various sponsors and partners whose contributions made the construction of these homes possible.
Reinforcing her commitment to improving living conditions for the vulnerable, she stated, “No one should have to live in conditions like those in Mgidzangcunu and Etingulubeni, especially young children.
They deserve to grow up in a safe and secure environment. With the funds we receive from our partners, we aim to construct homes for such families.”
In addition to the house, Gogo Vilakati and her family were also gifted with food supplies, a wheelchair, and a walking frame to assist her in daily life.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office further pledged to provide the family with indigenous chickens, ensuring a sustainable food source for the newly settled household.
The handover ceremony was not just a moment of celebration but also a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by many in Eswatini.

The Deputy Prime Minister’s initiative directly addresses the pressing needs of the vulnerable, reaffirming her belief that every LiSwati deserves a decent living space.
