During a session before the Senate Portfolio Committee, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini underscored the critical need for Eswatini to achieve a minimum economic growth target of 12 per cent over three years.

He warned that any shortfall would significantly compromise the delivery of essential services for emaSwati.

Addressing lawmakers, Dlamini reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens and its alignment with His Majesty King Mswati III’s Nkwe Commission, which aims to enhance national development.

“Fighting crime and other commitments entirely depend on the government achieving the 12 per cent economic growth.

Anything lower than that means service delivery will be compromised,” the Prime Minister stated.

He stressed the importance of not only achieving this economic milestone but also nurturing public confidence.

“It is important to regain our confidence and ensure that emaSwati begins to have self-confidence,” he added, highlighting the intrinsic link between economic stability and national morale.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that achieving this growth is contingent upon unity among citizens and different sectors of the government.

“Economic growth is dependent on working in unity,” he reiterated, signalling that collaboration would be essential for success.

In the realm of modernization, Dlamini noted that digitization is a strategic component consistent with the ongoing decentralization efforts being managed by various ministries.

He highlighted this initiative as vital for enhancing the efficiency and transparency of governmental operations.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister acknowledged the challenge posed by misinformation and disinformation in the nation, calling for collective action to tackle this pervasive issue.

“Misinformation and disinformation remain a problem in the country and need to be dealt with,” he urged.

As the government intensifies its focus on economic growth, Dlamini’s insights reflect a roadmap that combines ambition with necessary caution, emphasizing the interconnected nature of the nation’s economic health and the well-being of its people.

Meanwhile, Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini applauded the PM on the arrests of the Facata gang who defrauded members of the public of their hard-earned monies through the MoMo and E-wallet scams.

“What the REPS has done has regained the Public’s confidence and trust in Government and really your office has outdone itself,” the Senator highlighted.
