Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini says crime continues to plague the country, undermining societal values, impeding economic growth, and eroding community trust.

The Premier made these remarks on Thursday at the launch of the National Safety and Security Operations campaign at Matsanjeni, Lavumisa.

The launch was held under the theme: “We are at your service as Police Service to be a Safety and Security Buffer for the Nation in Partnership with Stakeholders.”

To combat crime, Dlamini believes this requires shared responsibility from all stakeholders.

The event was held at Matsanjeni Sports Ground in Lavumisa, and it was preceded by an Accident Prevention Awareness campaign where motorists using the Hluthi/Lavumisa public road were given pamphlets and reminded of the importance of safety during the festive period.

“Crime continues to rear its ugly head as new crime trends emerge on a daily despite the work that is being done on the ground.

Crimes such as murder, rape and Gender-Based Violence continue to be a thorn and cause for concern in the country as the frequency of cases recorded is constant and alarming,” the PM said.

He said crime undermines societal values, impedes economic growth, and erodes trust within communities and to combat this, the Government remains committed to supporting robust crime prevention strategies.

However, the premier said success requires collective action – every citizen, community leader and stakeholder must actively contribute.

“The Government of Eswatini prioritises the safety and security of its citizens, recognizing them as fundamental pillars of our Kingdom’s prosperity.

Together, we must strive for sustainable solutions to ensure that no community lives in fear ofcrime or criminals,” the PM added.
