A devastating head-on collision on the MR 1 public road near Malolotja has resulted in the deaths of two people.

The incident occurred at approximately 18 :30hours on Sunday evening, involving a Toyota Corolla sedan and an Iveco sprinter.

According to Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, Chief Police Information and Communication Officer, the accident occurred when a 39-year-old man from Mpolonjeni, who was driving the Toyota Corolla, collided with the Iveco sprinter driven by a 47-year-old man from kaNcesi.

The impact was severe, leaving the driver of the Toyota with critical injuries to his legs and body. He was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival at Mbabane Government Hospital.

Tragically, a 41-year-old male passenger from Majotini, who was also in the Toyota Corolla, succumbed to internal injuries after reaching the hospital.

Four other passengers from the Corolla have since been admitted for treatment, with their conditions yet to be disclosed.

The driver of the Iveco sprinter sustained injuries to both legs but was treated and successfully discharged from the hospital later that evening.

The vehicle was carrying eight passengers at the time of the collision, though no further fatalities or serious injuries have been reported among them.

The police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, and a report is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

The police urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life on the roads.
