The Kingdom of Eswatini has emphasized its continued support for the people of Mozambique during the challenging period of political unrest that has forced over 300 Mozambicans to seek asylum within Eswatini’s borders.
Speaking during a press briefing at Malindza Refugees Reception, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu emphasized the deep-rooted friendship and brotherhood between the two nations,
expressing Eswatini’s readiness to assist while engaging with Mozambique’s government and other stakeholders to address the ongoing crisis.

“Friendship and brotherhood which has lasted very many years and as a neighbour, we stand ready, as we always have, to provide support to Mozambique as they navigate this difficult time,” the Minister stated.
She assured that Eswatini is committed to mobilizing humanitarian aid and ensuring the safety and well-being of those seeking refuge.
The press briefing also expressed the Kingdom’s dedication to peace and stability in Mozambique as part of the major Southern African Development Community (SADC) objectives.
The Minister revealed that following the press briefing, a private meeting was scheduled with key stakeholders to discuss critical issues, including health, safety, and humanitarian needs.

Notable concerns include the provision of essential supplies for asylum seekers and addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, particularly children.
“We are prioritizing the mobilization of all necessary humanitarian aid and support for those impacted by the ongoing disturbances,” Minister Shakantu said.
She further highlighted efforts to supply food, blankets, mattresses, and vaccines to those in refugee camps.
Minister Shakantu amplified this plea, urging all partners, stakeholders, and the public to contribute to the relief efforts.

“The Minister of Home Affairs had also made a heartfelt appeal for assistance, emphasizing the urgent need for resources to improve living conditions for the displaced Mozambicans,” Shakantu asserted.
The Minister expressed gratitude for the efforts already made by various stakeholders and made emphasis on Eswatini’s vast commitment to supporting its neighbour in every possible way.
She emphasized that this support extended beyond immediate humanitarian aid to active engagement in political discussions aimed at resolving the unrest and restoring normalcy in Mozambique.
“We know Mozambicans are our brothers and sisters. When they are in need, we, as emaSwati, as we have always been, must be ready to provide them with all the assistance they need,” she said.
On another note, the Ministry of Health’s Dr. Velephi Okelo emphasized the need for vaccinations and proper nutrition, particularly for children residing in the camp.
