Vendors who were expecting to make a killing at the Mbabane Crossover show on New Year’s Eve were dismayed after the event was cancelled.
The show organized by Philani Maswati Charity Organisation had to be cancelled due to heavy rain that disrupted preparations and further raised safety concerns.
Vendors expressed their disappointment and frustration over the cancellation of the event, mostly because they had bought surplus stock with the hope of making a profit and surviving January.

Those interviewed stated that they were cognizant of the change in weather, which was inevitable, however, they remained with braaied meat, peeled vegetables and other items that were no longer returnable to the shops.
Others disclosed that they had used their children’s school fees to stock up with the hope of making a profit.
The vendors also expressed their frustration over the E1,000 they paid for a stall, which they said would not be refunded to them.
Philani Maswati Chairperson Lutfo Dlamini issued a statement where he apologised to all stakeholders and expresseddeep regret over the cancellation due to the unfortunate turn of events.

“We suffered yet another consequence of climate change. We planned this event about three months ago and the weather forecast indicated a rain-free December 31st.
Our sincerest apologies to all for this unfortunate act of nature,” Dlamini said.
