The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has started the beginning of 2025 with the successful capacitation of 33 traffic police officers through a rigorous three-month Basic Traffic Course.

The initiative was said to highlight REPS’ continued dedication to public safety and equipping officers with the skills required to serve the nation effectively.

The graduation ceremony was graced by Senior Deputy National Commissioner of Police Shadrack Simelane on behalf of the National Commissioner.

During the ceremony, the leadership celebrated the officers’ dedication and readiness to uphold their roles as protectors of the community.

In his address, Simelane expressed the importance of adherence to protocols, integrity, and strengthening trust with the public.

“The public demands are anchors for you to stick to procedures as articulated in organizational policies and state laws and take ideal decisions in multifaceted, complex, and unpredictable situations,” said Simelane.

He emphasized REPS’ commitment to morality over corruption and justice over lawlessness, urging the officers to embody these principles in their daily operations.

Simelane also announced plans to modernize the police service through the introduction of electronic funds transfer systems for payments.

This development is expected to streamline operations, enhance transparency, and improve public-police interactions which will also strengthen trust between the community and law enforcement.

Constable Bongani Sigudla, representing the cohort of trainees, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the program.

He highlighted the transformative impact of the training, noting that the newly acquired skills would not only enhance their professional abilities but also better prepare them to address the complexities of traffic management and public safety.

In a statement that was shared after the ceremony, the Police force cited that the training initiative aligns with REPS’ bigger objective of enhancing a proficient and capable traffic department dedicated to the safety and well-being of all emaSwati.

“As the officers prepare to apply their knowledge on the road, the public can expect a more efficient and responsive traffic service that prioritizes justice and collaboration,” reads the statement.
