Preparations are nearly complete for the official opening of the 13th Parliament.
People who will arrive without an invitation card for the official opening will not be allowed entry.
This was emphasised by the Speaker of the House of Assembly Jabulani Mabuza and Clerk to Parliament Benedict Xaba during a meeting in preparation for the official day next week Friday, January 31, 2025.
The opening of a new parliamentary session, pioneered by His Majesty King Mswati III, is a ceremonial and highly significant event in the national calendar.

As a formal occasion, it carries immense historical, political, and cultural importance.
This session marks the beginning of legislative activities for the newly constituted Parliament and sets the tone for the governance and policymaking agenda.
It involves the presence of high-ranking officials, including Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, government ministers, diplomats, and other dignitaries.
The participation of His Majesty King Mswati III underscores its significance as a state occasion, blending the traditions of the monarchy with parliamentary processes.

Therefore, limiting attendance ensures that only those with an essential role or stake in the event, such as invited guests and stakeholders, are present.
Further, the exclusivity highlights the event’s significance and ensures that it is conducted with the highest levels of decorum and respect.
Xaba stated that only those with an invitation card will be granted entry. This ensures that only authorized guests, such as parliamentarians, dignitaries, and other relevant individuals, can attend.

Such a measure helps maintain security by preventing unauthorized individuals from entering the venue. It also ensures that the event remains orderly and manageable.
He clarified that limiting entry to those with invitation cards allows for controlling the number of attendees, ensuring that the venue is not overcrowded and that facilities can accommodate everyone comfortably.
In the event a person is unable to attend, they are not allowed to give the card to anyone else, instead, they should communicate with the office and notify them in time.
“Also, guests are not allowed to take pictures of the card with the intention to show a picture at the entrance. They will not be allowed into the venue,” Xaba said.
For the high-end event, guests are expected to be in traditional or formal wear.
