The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Chief Ndlaluhlaza has emphasized the critical synergy between mining and rail transport,

stating that it significantly enhances the competitiveness of the country’s mining exports while also reducing logistical costs.

Through the representation of Principal Secretary Thulani Mkhaliphi at the Mini Mining Conference, which took place at Royal Villas on Monday, the Minister stressed the vital role the mining sector plays in the economic development of Eswatini.

The mining industry, according to the Minister, not only provides valuable employment opportunities but also contributes substantially to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and supports various other sectors.

Equally significant is the transportation sector, which ensures the efficient movement of goods and resources, thus facilitating trade and commerce.

The Minister also highlighted the essential role of Eswatini Railways in the country’s transportation infrastructure, noting its provision of reliable and efficient services that are indispensable to the mining industry.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering the growth and development of both the mining and transportation sectors.

“The government is continuously working on policies and initiatives aimed at creating a favourable environment for investment and innovation.

The ultimate goal is to ensure sustainable development that benefits all stakeholders and the nation as a whole,” he said.

Additionally, the Minister commended the conference as an excellent platform for stakeholders to exchange insights, discuss challenges, and explore opportunities.

He acknowledged that the country’s rail network is a critical component of the supply chain, ensuring the smooth and cost-effective movement of minerals and other goods.
