In a high-stakes response to rising crime rates, National Commissioner of Police Manoma Vusie Masango has issued a call to arms not just to law enforcement but to the entire community.

Speaking at the Stakeholder Crime Surge Indaba for the Manzini Region, held at the Mavuso Trade Centre, Masango made it clear: policing is not just a job for the police; it is a shared responsibility requiring full cooperation from all sectors of society.

The indaba, triggered by a notable increase in crime statistics between 2023 and 2024, brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for tackling crime under the theme ‘Community Synergy Policing’

The gathering aimed to foster open dialogue, exchange best practices, and devise sustainable crime-fighting initiatives.

Masango emphasized that crime in Manzini is not only escalating in frequency but evolving in nature, posing a serious threat to residents and businesses alike.

“We are witnessing a worrying trend in criminal activities, from stock theft to gender-based violence (GBV) and reckless road use. These crimes are not just police matters; they affect the socio-economic fabric of our communities,” he stated.

Key topics addressed during the indaba included:

The Value of Nkwe – a traditional concept guiding national development and policing approaches.

Road Users’ Impact on Socioeconomic Development – exploring how reckless driving contributes to instability.

The Impact of GBV – assessing the rising cases of violence against women and children.

Masango emphasized that crime prevention is more than just enforcement it is about intelligence gathering, community engagement, and decisive action.

He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities without hesitation, warning that criminals thrive in silence and secrecy.

“ The police alone cannot win this fight. We need a united front, where law enforcement, community leaders, business owners, and citizens work hand in hand to dismantle criminal networks,” Masango declared.

He further stressed that community-police cooperation is essential in eliminating crime hotspots and ensuring that the justice system delivers swift and effective action.

As the meeting concluded, stakeholders pledged to implement practical, results-driven solutions to combat crime in Manzini.

With a commitment to increased collaboration and proactive policing, the region aims to turn the tide against lawlessness before it spirals out of control.
