Bleak week for Eswatini football

It has been a bleak week for Eswatini football.

This follows the national Under 17 humiliating 3-0 loss to Comoros in the 2025 COSAFA Under 17 championships.

This was during a Group A opener played on Thursday at the Ngoni Mwos Stadium in Zimbabwe, adding more misery to local football, Following Sihlangu back-to-back loses to Cameroon and Libya in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Islanders’ victory was inspired by a Mathias Ali Brace and Fasifidine Ahamada on each half.

Gama lamented the loss during the post-match interview.

“We played well as my players stuck to our game plan, which was not to allow Comoros to score first. We lost shape towards the end of the first half during the opposition’s goal. We lost shape during the Second half,” he said.

The result dented the junior national team’s chances of advancing to the semifinals of the development knockout tournament.

The local lads will now take on hosts Zimbabwe on September 13, 2025, at the same venue before wrapping up the group against neighbours Mozambique two days later.

The competition serves as a qualifier for the 2026 AFCON Under 17 championships, with the four semi-finalists securing their spots in the continental tournament scheduled for Morocco.
