The Kingdom of Eswatini is exploring collaboration with South Africa in advancing plans to establish a Southern African Development Community (SADC) University of Technology, a project expected to strengthen regional capacity in higher education, innovation and information communication technologies.
This emerged during a courtesy visit by South Africa’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Prof.
Bonginkosi Emmanuel “Blade” Nzimande, to Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini at the Private and Cabinet Office on Monday.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries, particularly in the areas of higher education, science, innovation and ICT.
Prime Minister Dlamini highlighted Eswatini’s interest in deepening cooperation with South Africa as the Kingdom advances its development agenda through investment in education, technology and innovation.
He noted that Eswatini is currently working towards the establishment of the SADC University of Technology, a regional institution that is expected to play a critical role in producing skills required for the digital economy and industrial development.

According to the Prime Minister, innovation and information communication technologies will be central pillars of the proposed institution, positioning it as a hub for technological advancement and research within the region.
The discussions also explored possible areas of partnership that could support the realisation of the project, with both leaders agreeing to identify opportunities for cooperation going forward.
Minister Nzimande used the occasion to express gratitude, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of South Africa, for the role played by the Kingdom of Eswatini during South Africa’s liberation struggle.
He acknowledged the longstanding historical ties between the two countries and reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration in areas that contribute to social and economic development.
