The Municipal Council of Manzini has moved to reassure transport operators, informal traders and commuters following concerns raised over potential business disruptions linked to the relocation of the Main Bus Rank to temporary sites.
Information and Communications Manager, Phumlani Matse, said the municipality acknowledges the concerns raised by vendors about possible loss of income during the transition period,
but stressed that the relocation forms part of a broader development process aimed at improving long-term business opportunities in the city.
Matse said change often comes with adjustment challenges, particularly for businesses that rely heavily on foot traffic around the bus rank,
but assured stakeholders that the municipality is actively working to address the issues raised.
He said all concerns brought forward by operators and vendors have been noted,
and affected groups are encouraged to use established communication structures and committees that are engaging directly with the municipality to ensure that issues are resolved in an orderly and coordinated manner.

The municipality is aware of the concerns that have been raised and is doing its best to attend to them through the relevant stakeholder platforms,” Matse said.
He added that the relocation process is being implemented in consultation with transport operators,
traders and other key stakeholders to ensure continuity of services and minimise disruption during the construction of the new Main Bus Rank.
Matse further called for patience from all affected parties, saying the municipality is actively exploring sustainable solutions that will support both commuters and businesses throughout the transition period.
He emphasised that the temporary arrangements are part of a necessary step towards developing a modern transport hub that will ultimately improve trading conditions, commuter flow and economic activity in the city.
The relocation of public transport operators and informal traders to the Old Trade Fair grounds,
Satellite Bus Rank and Riverstone Mall marks the beginning of the redevelopment of the Main Bus Rank,
a project expected to significantly transform Manzini’s transport infrastructure over the coming months.
Municipal authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining open communication with all stakeholders as the city undergoes one of its most significant infrastructure upgrades in recent years.
