King returns home after attending 81st UN Assembly

His Majesty King Mswati III has returned to Eswatini after attending and addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, where he used the global platform to highlight issues affecting Africa and the wider international community.

His Majesty, who was accompanied by Inkhosikati LaNgangaza, departed the Kingdom on September 20, 2026, for the high-level United Nations gathering held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Deliver for All.”

During the General Assembly, His Majesty delivered Eswatini’s national statement, addressing global peace, development and the need for stronger multilateral cooperation among nations.

A key issue raised by the King was Africa’s continued lack of permanent representation on the United Nations Security Council.

His Majesty questioned how much longer African countries would have to wait for permanent representation in an institution responsible for making decisions on matters of international peace and security.

The call placed Africa’s representation within the broader discussions on reforming the multilateral system and ensuring that global institutions better reflect the interests and realities of countries across the world.

Beyond his address to the General Assembly, His Majesty participated in high-level diplomatic engagements in New York, including receptions and meetings alongside other world leaders.

His participation in UNGA 81 provided an opportunity for Eswatini to engage at the highest level of international diplomacy while contributing its position to discussions on global challenges, development and the future of multilateral cooperation.

Upon his return to the Kingdom, His Majesty was welcomed by senior government officials, members of the Royal Family and members of the public.

The return follows Eswatini’s participation in one of the United Nations’ key annual gatherings, which brings together heads of state and government and other representatives to deliberate on matters affecting the international community.
