Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland held private talks with His Majesty King Mswati III on Monday in London.
The SG paid a courtesy call to His Majesty whilst in London for the coronation of King Charles III which was held on Saturday and was attended by almost all the 56 Commonwealth Heads of State and Government and various leaders and dignitaries.
His Majesty and the SG held candid talks where, amongst issues raised, are the coming elections to be held in the country later this year. The main Election Day has been declared as September 29th, whilst August 26th has been set aside for the Primary elections.

The King explained in detail how the Eswatini elections are conducted and how the government and its structures are formed from the constituency level up to the cabinet. They further discussed both political and economic developments within the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Commonwealth leaders’ summit where issues affecting the youth were discussed and what programmes are lined up to assist developing countries.
The Secretary-General informed the King that they are available to assist the Kingdom in various programmes, including repeating their pledge to support His Majesty to strengthen governance and improve service delivery and the economy.
The SG further told His Majesty about their programme to deal with Artificial Intelligence (AI), which when harnessed correctly by the Commonwealth Member States, could see their economies
grow exponentially.

She emphasized the importance of countries within the Commonwealth cooperating and sharing experiences to bridge the technological divide.
Present in the meeting were Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Thuli Dladla, Prince Guduza, Eswatini High Commissioner in England, and the Commonwealth Thandazile Mbuyisa, Chief Officer Mgwagwa Gamedze and King’s Private Secretary Mbongeni Simelane.
The SG was accompanied by Assistant Secretary-General Luis Franceshi, Deputy Head Suresh Yadav and Advisor to the SG Abiola Sunmonu, among others.
