Former Imbube Marathon back-to-back winner, Sifiso Sibandze says he was rusty during this year’s edition.
The Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) athlete said this after finishing out of the top ten bracket during this year’s edition held on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.
“I have been inactive for the past three years hence I have been unable to perform well in this year’s edition. I still need to work extra hard at training in order to regain my fitness and I am confident that I will do better next year,” he said.

The 2023 edition was won by South African athlete Siphamandla Nkosi who took home the E30 000 first prize money. The duo of Sandile Khumalo and Samkelisiwe Tfwala won the best Emaswati categories for males and females which also carried a E30 000 carrot a piece.
The prestigious marathon attracted international runners from several countries such as Kenya, South Africa and Zimbabwe, among others. The event was graced by Princess Sikhanyiso who represented the race Patron His Majesty King Mswati III.
Other members of the Royal family such as Prince Hlangabeza, Prince Guduza and Princess Ncengencenge were also part of the event.
