The Minister of Health Mduduzi Matsebula has provided an update on the availability of cancer drugs in the country, where it addressed concerns raised by recent reports.
In a statement issued in response to an article published by the Times of Eswatini on May 13, 2024, the Ministry clarified that a majority of the cancer drugs previously listed as out of stock are now available, with some received as recently as last week.
This was contained in a statement shared by the Minister.

According to the Minister, the received drugs include essential medications such as 5FU, Paclitaxel, Bleomycin, Doxorubicin, Ondansetron, and Zometa.
These medications are currently being dispatched to health facilities across the country on an ongoing basis. Additionally, the Minister announced plans for the delivery of additional cancer drugs in June, including Tamoxifen, Cyclophosphamide, Bisacodyl, and Morphine injection.
The Minister of Health has acknowledged the challenges posed by drug shortages and assured the nation that steady progress is being made in addressing the issue.
While the situation remains a challenge, ongoing deliveries from suppliers have shown promising signs of improvement.

The Minister also expressed optimism that if the current momentum in terms of drug delivery continues, significant improvements can be expected throughout the fiscal year.
Minister Mduduzi Matsebula further urged the public to exercise patience as the Ministry continues its efforts to resolve the crisis relating to medical drug shortages.
Emphasizing the Ministry’s dedication to transparency, he assured the public that further developments regarding drug availability would be communicated promptly.
