A traffic accident claims two lives at Kwaluseni.

A fatal road traffic accident took place near the entrance of the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) along the D38 public road, at 2am on Saturday, leading to the death of two people.

A 29-year-old man from Siyendle was driving a Mazda Demio and collided with four pedestrians, resulting in a tragic outcome.

According to the Police Information and Communication Officer, Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the victims of the incident included a 27-year-old man from Eteni, a 20-year-old woman from Timbutini, a 26-year-old man from Eteni, and a 20-year-old woman from Sigombeni.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the Mazda Demio struck the pedestrians before careening into a stationary Mazda Verisa parked by a 32-year-old man from Emfabantfu.

Unfortunately, a 27-year-old man from Eteni and a 20-year-old woman from Sigombeni sustained life-threatening injuries in a tragic incident and were rushed to Mankayane Government Hospital. Regrettably, both were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Additionally, a 26-year-old man from Eteni and a 20-year-old woman from Timbutini sustained serious injuries and were taken to RFM and Mbabane Government Hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

The tragic incident has shocked the local community, raising concerns about road safety and responsible driving practices in Eswatini.

According to police reports, the driver of the Mazda Demio has been charged with culpable homicide and is set to appear before the Matsapha Circuit Court.

The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) is urging drivers to exercise caution, especially during late-night hours, and to remain vigilant about pedestrians and road conditions.

The community mourns the loss of the young lives and extends condolences to the families affected by this devastating event.
