ENTEBBE, UGANDA The Kingdom of Eswatini has pledged to serve as a Southern African hub for Uganda’s electric bus manufacturer.
The country is also keen to tap into Uganda’s experience in artisanal and large-scale mining in areas of ores, copper and others.
This is contained in a communiqué issued after bilateral talks between His Majesty the King and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
“In transport and infrastructure, the two heads of state called on the two sides to expedite cooperation processes regarding the creation of a hub by the Kingdom of Eswatini for marketing Kiira Motors Corporation.”

It also identifies opportunities in agriculture where both parties agreed to promote cooperation between organisations and business entities in areas of mechanisation of agricultural works, seed production, phytosanitary and veterinary control, animal husbandry, technology and scientific research activity.
The communiqué further noted that the two leaders exchanged views on regional peace and security issues and reaffirmed their commitment to working together in pursuit of sustainable peace, stability and economic development on the continent.
It read: “The two Heads of State underscored the importance of peace and security in the regional integration agenda and reiterated their commitment to continue working together on matters affecting peace and security within the region.”
Both parties noted the communique, and were satisfied with the convergence of positions regarding relevant issues of the international agenda.
“They reiterated their commitment to the multilateral system and to working together in the framework of the United Nations and other international bodies, including the Non-Aligned Movement, the G-77 and China, to achieve the vision outlined in the UN Charter,” read the communiqué.
UGANDA TO BOOST ESWATINI’S FOOD SELF-SUFFICIENCY GOALS
ENTEBBE, UGANDA The country’s goal of attaining food self-sufficiency received another boost as the Republic of Uganda has agreed to share its expertise with Eswatini.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the Agriculture field was one of two agreements signed at Uganda’s State House yesterday following a bilateral meeting between His Majesty the King and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

The other agreement signed is the General Cooperation Agreement on the establishment of a Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation. Signing on behalf of Eswatini was Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pholile Shakantu.
According to the agreement on agriculture, the two countries will now create favourable conditions for the development of economic and technological cooperation in the field of agriculture and rural development. It will be managed through a Joint Technical Committee.
“It will allow the exchange of experts, technicians and researchers and the exchange of programmes, for the improvement of animal and plant production and soil fertility, storage and processing, among others,” reads the agreement.
The general framework establishing a Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation seeks to identify possible areas for cooperation in the economic, scientific, technical, environmental, educational and cultural fields.
