Five days later, Mbabane Highlanders youngster Melusi ‘Mega’ Magagula still has no eyesight.
This is despite being taken to various experts in three different hospitals, including a private clinic in Ezulwini.
Magagula was first admitted to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital in Manzini on Saturday and then transferred to the Mbabane Government Hospital on Sunday for a CT (Computerised Tomography) Scan.
A CT Scan is a computerised tomography scan. It is a type of imaging that uses X-ray techniques to create detailed images of the body, like showing injury or disease, among other functions.
The young defender lost vision after what appeared to be a minor collision with Royal Leopard’s forward Sibonelo ‘Jekwa’ Simelane on Saturday.
This was during an MTN Premier League match at KaLanga Technical Centre during injury time. He had to be admitted to the RFM Hospital later the day due to his sight loss as his eyes closed and remained so to date.
“For us, this is a critical situation that calls for us to support the player in every way possible. We had to get some of the required scans in a private clinic in Ezulwini.

hey managed to run all necessary scans including one mainly for the eyes, and he’s currently at home taking treatment,” said the club’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kenneth Dlamini.
He said they were praying the player recovers.
“At the moment, there was no change in his condition, but we remain positive. The team MD is aware of what has befallen us and did send money to get him to the private clinic for further scans,” Dlamini responded when questioned if there was any change or any discovery from the scans.
He said he was not privy to the extent of the damage, if any, was found.
He added that the player was due for another medical checkup on Thursday.
“I wouldn’t know exactly what the scan results found as I wasn’t at the clinic. All I know now is that ‘Mega’ is home and receiving treatment,” he said.
The club’s coach, Mthunzi ‘Lomphofu’ Ginindza, decried the player’s unfortunate incident.
“I first lost Vusi Vilakati through injury early in the first half of the same match. It’s very sad and heartbreaking. We can only hope for the best for the player,” he said.

Ginindza said amid the ‘Mega’ setback, his team lost through its own mistakes against Leopard when it was not a tough match.
He assured fans they would continue training and coaching the club until it delivered as expected but did call for patience as most of the players were new.
His team has four points after three league games.
Team Manager Simiso ‘Space’ Jele said Magagula would recover, while assuring supporters that the MD,
Chief Ally Kgomongwe was taking care of the situation just as he has with any Highlanders player including youngster Siyabonga Mkhonto who had a muscle issue before later hurting his toe in training.
