Eswatini’s comedic trio, Dr Shakes, Mdura, and Sbu Ngwenya are gearing up for their highly anticipated performances at the renowned Soweto International Comedy Festival in South Africa.
This event, scheduled to take place on November 2, 2024, at the Kwalichaba venue in Soweto, promises to be a showcase of some of the best comedic talent on the continent.
The Soweto Comedy Festival, hosted by Comedy Central, has become a staple in the South African entertainment calendar, attracting a plethora of comedic talents from various backgrounds.

This year, the event boasts an impressive lineup, featuring comedy heavyweights such as Siya Seya, Trevor Gumbi, Nicholas Goliath, Eugene Khoza, Chris Forrest, Q Dube, and Mbali Gudazi, among others.
For Dr Shakes, one-third of the Eswatini trio, performing at the Soweto Comedy Festival is nothing short of a dream realized.
“Soweto is such a legendary place with a rich history, and to bring my comedy to that stage feels like a huge honour,” he expressed in an exclusive interview.
“The energy there is unmatched, and I know the crowd will bring that fire. It’s also an amazing opportunity to share my Swazi humour with a broader South African audience, and I can’t wait to see how they vibe with it.”

Dr Shakes promised to bring his A-game, emphasizing the importance of representing Eswatini proudly.
He reflected on the significance of the festival, noting that it serves as a vital platform for both established and emerging comedians.
“It’s a humbling experience to share the stage with comedy greats at the Soweto Comedy Festival. These are people I’ve admired and learned from, so performing alongside them is a huge honour,” he remarked.
“It pushes me to bring my best, not just to represent myself but also Eswatini’s comedy scene.”
