The serene surroundings of Elawini Lodge turned tragic on November 2, 2024, when a 32-year-old man from Mpolonjeni drowned while swimming.

Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Chief Police Information and Communication Officer confirmed that emergency services were called to the scene.

Despite efforts to revive him, the man was pronounced dead upon arrival at Good Shepherd Hospital.

As the community grapples with this unfortunate incident, authorities continue to address public safety issues.

In a separate incident, law enforcement made a significant arrest when a 37-year-old man from Limpopo, South Africa, was apprehended at the Mananga traffic circle.

He faces charges under the Arms and Ammunition Act for being found in possession of a black CZP-10C pistol along with thirteen live rounds of ammunition, all without a permit.

The police have reiterated their commitment to enforcing firearm regulations to ensure community safety.

In the past week, police also reported a strong focus on road safety, with 119 cases of drinking and driving recorded.

This alarming statistic highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing reckless behaviour on the roads.
