As part of its ongoing commitment to modernize the electricity sector in Eswatini, the Ministry of Natural Resources has reported significant advancements towards the review of the Electricity Act 2007, the Energy Regulatory Act 2007, and the Electricity Company Act 2007.
According to the Second Quarter Performance Report, as of September 30, 2024, the Ministry has reached critical milestones that promise to enhance the regulatory framework governing the nation’s energy landscape.
A key activity in this initiative will involve the preparation of draft amendment acts aimed at addressing contemporary challenges within the electricity sector.

These amendments are crucial for aligning Eswatini’s legislative framework with evolving energy demands and the push for sustainable development.
In a concerted effort to ensure that the amendments reflect the needs and aspirations of all stakeholders, the Ministry will conduct an internal consultation workshop with representatives from the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) and the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA).
This collaborative approach, which will focus on consolidating insights and experiences from key industry players, has proven vital in the drafting process.
Comprehensive stakeholder consultation has been a cornerstone of the Ministry’s approach, aiming for a final draft of the amendment acts that captures a wide range of feedback from various sectors.
The final draft is expected to be a robust document that can respond to the evolving electricity needs of Eswatini and can support the Government’s vision for a reliable and affordable energy supply.
Minister of Natural Resources, Prince Lonkhokhela recently remarked in Parliament on the importance of this review: “We are dedicated to promoting efficient and sustainable energy systems.
The amendments are not just legislative changes; they represent our commitment to ensuring that all citizens have access to reliable electricity, which is essential for economic growth and development.
