A shocking incident has left the community of Mahlabatsini in disbelief after a 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death before attempting to take his own life.

Impeccable sources have disclosed to Eswatini Daily News (EDN) that the man stabbed the woman several times, all over the body.

“He then stabbed himself countless times but just couldn’t die in the process and police arrived and transported both of them to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital (RFM) in Manzini,” revealed the source on Tuesday.

“Despite her desperate pleas, no one in the vicinity responded to the alarm raised by the deceased,” highlighted the source.

It is said that when police arrived at the scene around 2:15 a.m., they found the boyfriend lying on the floor, covered in blood and inflicting wounds on himself.

Paramedics quickly transported the woman to RFM Hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, Chief Police Information and Communication Officer, confirmed the details of the case.

“The suspect stabbed the victim several times in the upper body using a sharp object,” Vilakati stated. “He has since been arrested and will face charges in connection with this horrific crime.”

It should be noted that communities in Eswatini are advocating for increased awareness around domestic violence and mental health resources to emphasize the need for intervention in troubling relationships.

As this case unfolds, the REPS urges anyone who may be experiencing similar issues or who has witnessed domestic violence to seek help immediately.

Support hotlines and counseling services are available and can provide essential assistance to those in need.

It is worth mentioning that this tragic death highlights a growing concern regarding domestic violence in society.
