104 Children 10-19 Years Test Positive For Covid-19

Today, 6 December, 104 children in the age group 10-19 years test positive for Covid-19 while 30 test positive in the age group 0-9 years. This time around more children and young people seem to be affected by the new strain compared to the last three waves of the virus. Most of the cases are asymptotic or mild.

Parents have expressed mixed feelings about the number of children testing positive. Some parents are of the view the schools should not be closed on account of the virus because children have already lost a lot of school time.

Miss Zwane who has two children in one primary school in Manzini said “Government should consider closing schools a bit early to contain the virus in schools because soon there will be an outbreak in all the schools. It’s not fair for the sick children to miss out on school while others are learning.” A teacher in Mbabane said he is concerned that the virus is moving fast among children. “At the moment we are requesting parents to keep children in isolation at home when should they test positive.
