… Widow receives hope after years of hardship

At Vusweni, 52-year-old widow Thandi Mavimbela received a newly constructed climate-smart house after years of enduring extremely difficult living conditions.

Mavimbela had been living with her two children and nine grandchildren in a single-room stick-and-mud house that eventually collapsed, leaving the family without decent shelter.

Speaking during the ceremony, she described the struggles they had faced over the years, saying poverty had forced some of her grandchildren to abandon their education.

She revealed that five of her grandchildren had dropped out of school because she could no longer afford to pay top-up school fees.

Her story moved many people who attended the handover. In response, Dladla assured the family that government support would not end with the construction of the house.

She announced that the DPM’s Office, through the NDRMA, would also build a makeshift kitchen for the family and fence the property to improve safety and security.

The climate-smart house was funded through support from the Republic of China (Taiwan), reflecting continued cooperation between the Kingdom of Eswatini and its development partners in improving the lives of vulnerable citizens.

In Zombodze, another emotional handover took place when 45-year-old Thobile Msibi and her family received a fully equipped homestead after enduring years of hardship.

heir assistance package included a climate-smart house, a ventilated pit latrine, a makeshift kitchen and a water tank.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister also committed to fencing the property.

Msibi explained that one of her children lives with a disability, making their previous living conditions even more challenging.

She said the family had suffered ridicule from some members of the community because of the poor state of their former house, which eventually collapsed.

Overcome with emotion during the ceremony, Msibi recalled the difficult years her family had endured and expressed heartfelt gratitude for receiving a decent home.

She said the transformation had restored hope and dignity to her family.
