There is a new sheriff in town! South Africa’s former Under-23 squad head coach Solly Luvhengo was this afternoon unveiled as the new Mbabane Highlanders coach.
Luvhengo, who has signed a renewable one-year contract, was unveiled by Highlanders’ flamboyant Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe in front of the club fans before the ‘Black Bull’ took on MTN log leaders, Young Buffaloes in a do-or-die clash at the Mavuso Sports Centre.
Kgomongwe told the Eswatini Daily News that Luvhengo beat other deserving candidates in former SA’s Baroka FC coach, Kgoloko Thobejane and Andries ‘Chaka Chaka’ Mpondo.
“We had enlisted three coaches for the position where we had engaged Dumsani Makhanya to hold fort after we separated with Sly Mosala. After careful consideration, we picked Solly because he has the right qualifications and qualities, we need at Highlanders to continue with the project we are building here,” Kgomongwe said.
Kgomongwe confirmed that Luvhengo has signed a renewable one-year contract with the black and white ensemble. Luvhengo said he was happy to join an ambitious team like Highlanders and will give it his best.
“Today, I am just here to watch the team play and see where we need to start. I am excited to be part of such a project,” Luvhengo said.
Luvhengo spent a few weeks with another local side, Manzini Sundowns two years ago but left under unclear circumstances.
