The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has apologised for the abandonment of the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup Last 16 match involving Green Mamba and Red Rhinos on Tuesday at Mavuso Sports Centre.
The match was called off after Red Rhinos failed to show up for the fixture, leaving over 100 fans who had gathered at the venue disappointed.
“The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) regrets to inform supporters and stakeholders that the Green Mamba FC vs Red Rhinos fixture scheduled for 1 September 2026 at Mavuso Sports Centre has been abandoned,” the organisation stated.
“The PLE sincerely apologises to 8Bet, the tournament’s title sponsor, EIPA, the host partner, as well as supporters, participating teams, service providers, media partners and all stakeholders affected by the development,” it added.
The PLE said it was currently reviewing the match officials’ report regarding the abandonment and will communicate the official outcome and any further arrangements through its official channels.
“The PLE appreciates the patience, understanding and continued support of all stakeholders and remains committed to upholding the integrity and standards of Eswatini football,” the organisation said.
Red Rhinos are set to appear before the Eswatini Football Association Disciplinary Committee on 2 September 2026.
The Lubombo-based side reportedly sold its top-flight status to Manzini Wanderers, a move that was approved at the eleventh hour by the Eswatini Football Association.
