68-year-old man Thulubona Gamedze has received a newly built one-room house worth over E33 000 from Langaletfu Organisation after living in a dilapidated stick-and-mud structure.

The house was handed over on Saturday at Maliyaduma. Gamedze had been living in difficult conditions in a deteriorating structure.

His circumstances prompted the Langaletfu Organisation to construct a new house to provide him with safer and more dignified shelter.

The construction of the house forms part of the organisation’s efforts to assist vulnerable members of the community with basic needs and improved living conditions.

The new house marks a significant change in Gamedze’s living conditions, providing him with permanent shelter, improved protection, security and comfort.

Support for Gamedze has extended beyond the construction of the house. Philani Maswati Charity Organisation, under the leadership of Chairman Lutfo Dlamini, has provided food, clothing and a blanket.
The organisation has also pledged to continue assisting him with his basic needs and has committed to purchasing a bed for him.

Speaking during the handover, Dlamini said Philani Maswati Charity Organisation intervened to complement the housing support provided by Langaletfu Organisation.

He said the organisation provided food, clothing and a blanket as immediate support to help Gamedze settle into the new house.

He said a house needs necessities to become a proper home, hence the decision to provide the additional items and to commit to buying a bed.

Dlamini said Philani Maswati Charity Organisation will continue to assist Gamedze with his basic needs going forward.

He said the organisation is committed to assisting vulnerable people in communities and to working with other organisations that are providing similar support.

He commended the Langaletfu Organisation for building the house for Gamedze. Dlamini said Philani Maswati saw the need to intervene after learning about Gamedze’s living conditions and the new house that had been built for him.

He said they did not want him to move into an empty house without necessities.

Dlamini added that the organisation will continue to monitor his situation and will keep assisting him. He said Philani Maswati is committed to supporting elderly and vulnerable people and to working together with other organisations to ensure interventions have lasting impact.

Speaking on behalf of Langaletfu Organisation, the organisation said they intervened after seeing the condition of Gamedze’s old structure, which was no longer safe for human habitation.

The organisation said the new house, valued at over E33 000, was built to give him permanent shelter and restore his dignity.

“We found Mkhulu living in a very difficult situation. His hut was deteriorating and posed a risk to his safety.

As an organisation that assists vulnerable community members, we decided to build him a proper house,” the organisation said.
