DStv will begin trialing upgraded sports packages for customers on Tuesday, allowing subscribers to experience higher-tier content at no extra cost.
Under the new promotion, subscribers to the R399-per-month Sports package will automatically gain access to additional channels for a seven-day trial period, effective immediately.
Once the trial ends, the package will revert to its standard channel line-up, which was launched earlier this month.
While MultiChoice has not disclosed the specific channels included in the trial, the move is expected to benefit both the broadcaster and its subscriber base.
“We told South Africans to expect more, and we meant it,” said Willington Ngwepe, CEO of MultiChoice (Pty) Ltd. “Our new packages were just the beginning. We’ll continue to find ways to give customers more value from their DStv subscriptions. Customers on the Select package will be the first to enjoy this benefit, with more to come before the end of the year.”
Although the new standalone sports package provides an affordable alternative for sports-focused viewers, it still falls short of the full DStv Premium offering.
While the package includes major competitions—such as PSL, Premier League (EPL), and UEFA Champions League football—several key broadcasts remain exclusive to higher tiers.
Most notably, Springbok rugby, Formula 1, Proteas cricket and golf are excluded. Golf fans, for instance, will still need to subscribe to the flagship R799 Premium package to stream the majors along with weekly PGA and European Tour events.
